Valletta will be hosting the title of European Capital of Culture in 2018 with a partner Dutch city, Leeuwarden. The ECoC includes all the Maltese Islands, with an aim to spread its impact throughout the whole Maltese territory.
The Valletta 2018 Foundation is tasked with creating and implementing the Cultural Programme, a programme of events and projects developed for schools, communities, and people from different backgrounds, which is constantly being developed as the year 2018 approaches. The programme is open, engaging and diverse, inviting you, your friends and family to be part of it. It will be the highlight of the European Capital of Culture year, running from January to December 2018, which will leave a legacy beyond this year.
The objective of Valletta 2018 is to also stimulate cultural, social and economic regeneration in Malta’s villages, towns and cities in cooperation with Local Councils, through dialogue and innovative practice. This requires the engagement of many people, willing to deliberate new perspectives on matters they consider important such as creativity, public engagement, cultural dialogues, community spaces, international relations, and education, amongst others.
